Tips or mistakes you made as you went from running a team in California to being the boss?

If you’re going to be selling while you’re starting a dealer, you really have to make sure that you have a good schedule that works with your wife or husband. Because mine kind of evolved in that way, but now my mornings are done but I’m selling. I had to learn and evolve with my business to make sure that my wife was happy and I was able to spend time with her and also be able to grow it.

If you expect to make more money by starting a dealer, you should revisit what you’re doing right now and improve a few things instead. I did what I was having to sell longer than I expected, and even though I was kind of warned about it, it still ended up happening.

What has it been like stepping in with another person, or what advice would you have for someone that’s doing it together?

I think having a partner like that makes things go more smoothly, and he’s a really hard worker. So we kind of stay in our own lanes when we need to, or we’ll jump in and say, what about this?

Did you guys like divide up? How do you decide who’s going to do what in the business?

When we first started, we shared hats between the three of us. We had team hour for the summer and all that, and now we have blitz season during the winter time, because you got to get out of this cold California.

What does it takes to get a golden door?

If you want to improve at the golden door, or if you’re not doing that great, figure out what your averages are. If you want to win golden doors, you have to knock 25 doors a day, get one appointment, and have five appointments to have three AKs out of those three AKs. If you’re not doing that well, you have to increase your reps.

Anyone listening, especially experienced reps, should know their ratios and how many appointments it takes to get a close. If you’re thinking to start your own dealer, make sure you listen to the things Dallin has talked about today and know what you’re getting into.
